This Dell Inspiron 11 300 Non Touch is an inexpensive ultra-portable laptop with 64-bit Windows and higher performance speeds. The flashy paint job may as well be a sticking point for some people, but if don't mind the design and cute styling, this is the better-performing system. For these reasons, the Dell Inspiron 11 300 Non Touch is still our new Editors' Choice budget ultra-portable laptop.
Features :
Heat
The Inspiron 11 stays cool during use. After we streamed 15 minutes of HD video on this laptop, our heat gun picked up temperatures on its touchpad (74 degrees Fahrenheit), G and H keys (84 degrees) and underside (87.5 degrees) that all fell below our 95-degree comfort threshold.
Battery Life
What cements the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 Non Touch as a useful machine in spite of its limited performance is battery life. It would be very difficult to get a laptop that offers longer battery life than the Inspiron 11 3000 Non Touch. The laptop lasted 12 hours and 39 minutes on the Laptop Mag Battery Test (web browsing at 100 nits), which beats the runtimes of the Ideapad 110S (7:22) and the Chromebook 11.
Storage
The biggest hardware concession made to that end in the Inspiron 11 3000 Non Touch is storage capacity. It has only 32GB of eMMC flash storage as its primary storage. It’s nice that it's flash memory of a sort, and thus won't crash when bumped (though not as snappy by far as a true solid-state drive, or SSD). But just 32GB? Really, folks. After you install Windows and some programs, you’re left with about 20GB of storage, which sure isn’t much these days. It's barely an appetizer.
You'll have to manage that scarce space carefully. Thanks to cloud services like Gmail and Spotify, many users don’t need as much local storage as they used to, and the laptop does have an SD-card reader that you could use to supplement the primary storage with a cheap SD card. So not all is lost. But the space will fill quickly, and you'll have to be a ruthless pruner of your local programs and content.
Connectivity options
On the left side of the laptop are an HDMI port, a USB 3.0 port, and a microSD card slot. On the right there's another USB 2.0 port, a headset jack, and a security lock slot. It does feature dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Design
The Inspiron 11 3000 Non Touch is naturally quite small and light, weighing just 2.4 pounds and measuring 11.6 inches across, 7.7 inches deep, and 0.78 inch thick. This makes it extremely portable, low-res screen also grants very good battery life, up to 12 hours on a charge.
The lid of our test unit was a glossy blue , red and white color that Dell labeled "Bali Blue, Tango Red, Alpine White" while the plastic around the keyboard and palm rests has a matte finish.
The keyboard, touch pad, and display are pretty much what you’d expect from a laptop at this price point and screen size. The keys, for one, have something of a cheap feel and not much vertical travel. Overall, though, we didn't mind this Chiclet-style keyboard; the layout was comfortable enough for its size, given that the keys were all big enough to allow effortless typing. It's not brilliant. The touch pad was also roomy and allowed for multi-finger gestures, which came in handy during testing and were recognized consistently.
Performance
This ia the only reason why you should re-think before going for this laptop, its performance.
The Dell Inspiron 11 3000 Non Touch has a very low-end CPU, an Intel Celeron dual-core N3060. This is partnered with 2GB RAM, again a bottom-rung spec.
You should only go for the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 Non Touch if you're prepared for how Windows 10 runs under this sort of spec.
Among laptops, the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 Non Touch's performance is poor. However, if you're looking for a machine to write documents up on, write project, or have a go at writing a novel, it's still an excellent choice.
Summary :
If you're after a budget laptop that'll let you work on the go and last all day, the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 Non Touch is your best option. It's comfortable to type on, has a practical screen and its battery life is great among Windows laptops. It's like an ultra-affordable take on the 12-inch MacBook Air, it's an unofficial offshoot of the MacBook Air range. It's small, it's light, but it's also a proper laptop.
One fact that might make people chuckle is that the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 has much better real-world connectivity than the 1000 MacBook 12-inch. You get two full-size USB ports (one USB 2.0, one USB 3.0), a full-size HDMI port, a microSD slot and a headphone jack.
You could easily use this as a portable movie player, plugging into a TV. This might come in handy if you take the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 Non Touch on a work trip abroad only to find your hotel TV only seems to broadcast in languages you don't understand.
There's also just enough connectivity to turn the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 Non Touch into the brains of a desktop PC setup, although it doesn't really have the power to do this very well.
A lot of the Windows devices you'll find around this price are hybrids, like the Asus Transformer T100. Here, the screen is firmly attached to the keyboard base, and the brains sit in the base rather than the display. It's not a tablet or convertible.
While not as trendy as a hybrid, there are still real benefits to a trad device like this. It's not top-heavy, so you can work with it on your knees without it wanting to topple over as soon as you take your hands off it, for example. Hybrids rarely have great keyboards too.
