What you should know about the HP Notebook 15 Laptop
Are you thinking of buying a good and affordable HP laptop to serve you in the business and learning environment? You should take a look at the The HP Notebook.
The HP Notebook 15-ac121nr is a fairly affordable 15-inch notebook with big aspirations. It has a sharp 1080p display for enjoying flicks and photos, a big 1TB hard drive for all of your files and an attractive chassis that looks good on your desk. The $649 laptop falls flat in a couple of areas, but overall, it's a good value.
The HP Notebook 15-ac121nr is made of plastic, but it's still an attractive device. The laptop's lid features HP's logo in black on a silver, diamond-textured pattern that strikes a handsome modern profile. Opening the lid reveals a silver deck with a subtle crosshatch design (it comes in other colors, including red, blue, white and purple); a black, Chiclet-style keyboard; and a 1080p display surrounded by a chunky, black bezel.
At 4.8 pounds and 15.1 x 10 x 0.96 inches, the Notebook 15 is not the most portable machine, but it's light enough to take with you. The Toshiba Satellite L55-C5340, the Asus F555LA and the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 are all similar in size. The Satellite L55-C5340 and the F555LA are of similar weight, at 4.8 pounds and 4.6 pounds, respectively. However, at 5.4 pounds, the Inspiron is much heftier.
According to Laptop mag, the laptop is very good for its price and quality as we put its unique features in perspective below;
Ports and Webcam
The HP Notebook 15-ac121nr has a DVD drive and a plethora of ports. The left side has an Ethernet jack, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, and the mic/headphone combination input. On the right is an SD card slot, another USB 2.0 port, the disc drive and a lock slot for security.
Keyboard and Touchpad
Number crunchers will appreciate the full number pad on the HP Notebook 15's keyboard, but the typing experience is merely adequate. The Chiclet-style keys have just 1.1 millimeters of travel, which caused me to bottom out immediately as I typed. The keyboard has virtually no flex, though. That helped me reach a typing speed of 108 words per minutes with a 1 percent error rate on the 10fastfingers.com typing test, which is about average for me.
Performance
For a budget mainstream laptop, the 2.3-GHz Intel Core i5-6200U CPU, 8GB of RAM and 1TB hard drive in the HP Notebook 15 performed competently. With 10 tabs open in Google Chrome (one of which was streaming 1080p clips of Saturday Night Live) and OpenOffice Writer in the background, I noticed only a bit of lag when scrolling and switching between websites.
In Geekbench 3, a synthetic test that measures CPU performance, the HP Notebook 15 scored 5,784. The Dell Inspiron 15 5000 with identical specs achieved a score of 6,331, while the Toshiba Satellite (2.2-GHz Core i5-5200U CPU and 8GB of RAM) earned a lower mark of 5,564. The Core i3-powered Asus F555L fell predictably behind the pack, with a score of 2,080.
See the review of Jamie, a Happy user as revealed to Amazon;
Love, love, love this notebook/laptop! Arrived quickly, packaged well. Already semi charged out of the box! I started it up, was quick, the graphics are very vivid, clear and high definition. There aren't alot of unnecessary apps to bloat it. The first thing I did was to add my paid for virus protection, advast, which I love, I added the apps I wanted and it was ready to rock. The platform where the keyboard is feels smooth to thd touch and while typing your hand seems to glide smoothly across the keys which is a plus, it feels natural and the keys respond with a slight tap. The outside of the case is similar to a brushed metal with ridges, leaving no smudges and fingerprints when closing or opening it for use. I'm a windows 7 fan and didnt think id like the 10 that came with it, I wanted a 7 but couldnt find one that I liked or had great reviews so after reading the good and the bad, I bought this one and haven't regretted it. Its fast going from window to window, uploading and downloading. No lag in between apps, just does what you want it to without any hesitation. Feels light carrying it room to room, and the battery is good for about 6 hours before needing plugged in again. All in all this is a nice laptop for the money and mine came with the optical drive becausd no matter how much you can do on line with out having to use it like adding pictures , music, documents or any other thing you want to transfer, now you have cloud, dropbox, and one drive to do that, I still find I want to use the optical drive to watch movies when there's no internet available, like when you camp remotely! My reason for the optical drive. I can't think of anything else to add to my review, my experience with electronics is minamal, so writing this review in my own words trying to get my points across, may be a little windy or long in explanation, but I hope if your looking for a good, easy to use, nice looking, quick laptop, this is the one and well worth the money spent. On another note, before I bought this one, I did buy another HP with windows 7 on it here on Amazon, but when I received it, it wouldnt connect with my HP wireless all in one printer, I had to upgrade the drivers first in the laptop, which was a pain, it seemed everything I needed to add to it had to have drivers installed first, and than there was an issue with staying connected to the internet, I started to think it was my internet, but no, it was the laptop! Heres what im getting at, I went back to my account on Amazon, and looked at their return policy on laptops, I had this one for 26 days, and was afraid they wouldn't take it back, but I proceeded to follow their instructions for a return, repackaged the laptop in the box it came in, (I did use a cleaner and did a factory restore first) and they sent me a return label which I attached to the box, the very next day ups picked it up from my house, and it couldnt havd been more than 3-4 days I had a full refund in my account! So bottom line if you order a laptop, get it, and don't like it, returning it is hassel free, and refunds are quick! thanks for reading and good luck with whatever you decide on!
