ASUS ZENBOOK 3 REVIEW: FEATURES

The Asus Zenbook 3 is super light weighed at just 11.7mm thin and 2 pounds only. It’s size and weight makes it one of the lightest laptops in the world at the moment.

 

It is similar to Apple MacBook. It is super thin, comes with a full metal chassis and has a single USB-C port on the right side. It is quite unfortunate that the single port available is used to charge the Asus Zenbook 3 as well as connect external accessories. A combo 3.5mm audio jack is strategically located at the left side.

 

The fingerprint sensor is situated on the top right corner of the touchpad. It is used to sign into the ZenBook 3 via Windows Hello. We feel this placement is quite odd as it can interfere with the touchpad’s functionality.

Asus mimicked Apple’s Butterfly keyboard which bounce back when lightly pressed. The keyboard on the Zenbook 3 is however not as extraordinary as the MacBook’s. The keys don’t quickly spring back into place, nor do they have an equal level of resistance. In other words, the keys feel soft and lead to inaccurate typing before mastering the learning curve.

 

In the US, the ZenBook 3 starts at $1,599 (about £1,499, AU$1,598). In Australia, the specifications are similar, save for memory. Instead of the same 16GB that ships elsewhere, the Australian model ships with 8GB, and you can find it for AU$1,995.

 

The Asus ZenBook 3 comes with Intel Kaby Lake processor . It also has fans which are quiet as possible. Four Harmon Kardon speakers are found on the ZenBook 3. Two are on the top of the device, just above the keyboard, with the other two speakers found on the bottom of the housing. They aren’t the loudest speakers, but they’re more than enough to listen to music or watch the occasional YouTube video.

 

Asus Zenbook 3 boasts of 9 hours of use. Tech Radar performed a battery test on it, and it resulted that ZenBook 3’s battery get through 9 hours of use. Looping Guardians of the Galaxy at 50% brightness with all unnecessary features (Bluetooth, location, backlit keyboard, etc.) disabled, TechRadar ran the movie battery life test twice to confirm the ZenBook 3’s score of almost 6 hours and 30 minutes.
