The best Chromebooks are yet to be tagged among the world’s premium laptop, mainly because it’s target population are the students as well as those who merely need a system to surf the system with.

 

Acer Chromebook 13 can be regarded as an odd device, even though it comes with strong performance, fantastic keyboard and durable aluminum chassis. You can opt for it if you can turn a blind eye to its high price while going for the Chrome OS.

Design

BODY: Acer Chromebook 13 is robustly built even though it is not one of the aesthetic laptops in the market. It is wonderfully packed with ports for a Chromebook, including two for USB-C 3.1 as well as a legacy USB port and a microSD card slot.

Display

The display is one of the amazing features of this chromebook. The Acer Chromebook 13 features a QHD (2,256 x 1,504) display. Text is clearly visible and photos and videos look rich and colorful.  

Where the display failed us is the lack of touch compatibility. The Acer Chromebook 13 will let you install Android apps but, without a touchscreen, most of these apps are just a pain to use. For instance, you can just forget about playing any games on it. For a Chromebook that costs as much as the Acer Chromebook 13, it makes no sense to omit a touch display. 

 

Speakers

The Acer Chromebook 13 has little speakers built into the bottom of the chassis: they are quiet, tinny and less audible. When tuned to 25%, the volume is as bad as being muted. These speakers will get the job done, but we’re not sure how long they will last if you have to blast them at full volume just to hear the content you’re consuming. 

 

Performance

 The Acer Chromebook 13, with its Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB RAM, is an absolute good performing PC. However, you should keep in mind that with an Ultrabook-class processor, fan noise is absolutely something you’ll have to deal with here. When it comes to horsepower, you’re definitely getting what you’re paying for. 

 

The Acer Chromebook 13 manages to beat the Google Pixelbook in pretty much every test, thanks to that 8th-generation Kaby Lake Refresh processor. For instance, in the Google Octane test, the Acer Chromebook 13 scored a whopping 34,774 points, compared to the Pixelbook’s 27,554. If you’re getting a Chromebook for work, this will get the job done. It’s just unfortunate that it is locked to what the Chrome browser could do.

Battery Life

Due to the improvements to efficiency in Intel’s 8th-generation chips, the Acer Chromebook 13 also lasts longer than the Pixelbook It can last a bit more than 8 hours, although Acer claims 10. Compared to the Google Pixelbook, which lasted 7 hours and 40 minutes in the same test, that’s about 24 minutes more battery life, which is notable, but probably isn’t going to change your mind. You can expect this Chromebook to last you through your workday, as long as you don’t overzealously pump up the screen brightness. 

 

 Price

 The Acer Chromebook 13 is too expensive for a Chromebook, even if it does rock full, Ultrabook-class hardware. There are two models on offer, both with 13.5-inch QHD (2,256 x 1,504) displays.  You can get one for $699- $999.

FINAL VERDICT

Although the Acer Chromebook 13 is a powerful device, which has rigid build quality, the price is a bit steep for what it ultimately offers.  And it is pretty bad that it does not come with touch screen, considering its expensive cost.
